Kola Sunday, a senior secondary school three (SS3) student of United Comprehensive College, Odo-Ere, headquarters of Yagba West local government area of Kogi state, has been reported killed by suspected herders.
Sunday’s murder denied him the opportunity to write his first paper for the West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, scheduled for Monday, May 5, 2025, a source told BusinessDay.
The incident was said to have happened on Saturday when the victim and his two other siblings were tending to crops on the family’s farm in the community.

Though the reason behind the attack is yet to be established, the suspected herders reportedly shot at the three young boys on the farm.
Sunday’s syblings escaped, and managed to make it home alive, Sunday was not lucky as the bullets of their attackers hit his head, killing him before help could come.
In recent times, there has been an escalation in the murderous activities of bandits identified as herders in the Yagba West and other communities situated in the Western Area of Kogi State.
Killings and abductions are also being reported in Mopa- Moru Local Government Area of the State, Abel ontop, the chief press secretary to the Elulu of Mopa, Oba Olumuyiwa Ibeun, confided to our correspondent.
Abel disclosed that the frequency of the incidents of armed attacks atreibaboe to the bandits in the area,, was what informed a high level secuirty meeting organised, recently by Mopa- Moru Local Government Council, in partnership with the Palace of the Elulu of Mopa.
