Suspected armed gang has invaded the Ikeja home of late business mogul cumming politician, Moshood Abiola, and allegedly carted away properties worth millions of naira.
Abiola, a presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was believed to have won the June 12, 1993 presidential election which was annulled by Ibrahim Babangida, then military president of Nigeria. Abiola subsequently died in detention while still struggling to actualise his presidential mandate.
It was learnt that the gunmen stormed home of the late politician and were said to have subjected the family members to extreme emotional torture and harassment.
The gunmen invaded and ransacked the house, carting away cash and other valuable items belonging to the family.
The family in a statement confirming the incident, and signed by Tundun Abiola, on Wednesday, said that the family was subjected to extreme emotional torture and harassment during the attack that lasted several minutes on Tuesday night.
According to the family, the police have since been informed, crime scene examined and investigated to aid arrest of the culprits.
“We are consoled by the fact that no life was lost in this unfortunate and frightening incident. We give glory to Almighty Allah and we thank friends and family members across the world who have called and sent messages of support and solidarity”.
Bala Elkana, spokesperson of the Lagos Police Command, did not take his calls, to either confirm or deny the incident.
