Anthony Joshua, a former two-time heavyweight champion and rising Nigerian-British star, Moses Itauma will headline the biggest boxing event ever staged in Africa, tagged “Chaos in the Ring”, scheduled for October 1st at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, Group CEO of Balmoral Group, confirmed that Joshua, Itauma, and several global boxing stars will be in attendance at the Independence Day mega event, which will be broadcast worldwide on DAZN.
Global Stars Expected in Lagos
Dr. Adamu revealed that other high-profile names, including Deontay Wilder, Lawrence Okolie, Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller, and representatives of the Don King family, have also expressed interest in attending.
“Anthony Joshua said he would definitely support, Moses Itauma confirmed he is coming, and Lawrence Okolie too. Wilder called and said he’ll try to make it, and Big Baby Miller confirmed he’ll be here. It’s going to be a star-studded event and history in the making for Nigeria and Africa,” Adamu said.
Nigeria’s Answer to Saudi Arabia
He added that the goal is to deliver an event capable of rivalling Saudi Arabia’s recent boxing spectacles, while showcasing Nigeria’s unique energy and passion.
Developing Local Talent
Reflecting on his journey into boxing promotion, Adamu explained that beyond staging fights, Balmoral is committed to discovering and grooming local Nigerian talents to create a lasting boxing legacy.
“You cannot have a major boxing platform without the best boxers. We started identifying and signing Nigerian talents last year. It goes beyond promotion; we are building the foundation for Nigerian boxing,” he noted.
Fight Card Highlights
The fight card features a mix of local and international talent. One of the headline bouts will see Nigeria’s Basit Adebayo face off against Tanzania’s Tony Rashid for the WBO Africa Title. Other featured fighters include Kerem Ozman against Tosin Osaigbovo and undefeated Yusuf Adeniji.
The event will also feature top-tier international fighters. Cruiserweight contender Brandon Glanton and former British, Commonwealth, and European Champion Dan Azeez will be fighting in a “bucket list bout” in his home country. Former IBF World Champion Richard Commey and Ray Seitzhanov are also scheduled to be in attendance to entertain the crowd.
