The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) has demanded full implementation of the approved scheme of service for medical laboratory scientists at all tiers of government.
AMLSN, which is the professional body of Medical Laboratory Scientists in the Country, also demanded an increased budgetary allocation to the health sector as well as adequate funding of medical laboratory services with a view to making tests affordable, reliable and accessible to the masses.

Uche Odionyenma, the National President of the Association, made the call at a media briefing in Owerri in commemoration of the 2025 World Biomedical Laboratory Science Day which had the theme, “Biomedical Laboratory Scientist Promoting Sustainability in Clinical Diagnosis”.
He disclosed the historical background of the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science which inwardly established the Biomedical Laboratory Science (BLS) in 1996.
And also explained that the International BLS Day celebrated yearly on the 15th of April promoted by IFBLS to celebrate the pivotal role of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists in the early detection and accurate diagnosis of diseases, monitoring of treatment, disease surveillance and prevention gives, “our profession a day to promote and celebrate ourselves as a profession as well as increased awareness of the role that biomedical laboratory scientists have in providing healthcare.”

He hailed President Bola Tinubu for his reform agenda particularly in the health sector, and also insisted on the full implementation of the National Health Act 2014, liberalising of the headship and restructuring of the Federal Ministry of Health with a view to appointing credible, professional in unbiased, experienced health administrators or professionals.
