In a showcase of youth innovation and technological prowess, students from Adiaha Obong Secondary Comprehensive School have been recognised for their outstanding performance at the Akwa Ibom Tech Week 2024.
The student team, ‘Adisco Great Tech Innovators,’ emerged victorious in the Ibom Innovation Challenge, earning multiple awards for their groundbreaking ‘Remote Fish Farming Monitoring System.’
The Ibom Innovation Network, the organising body behind the successful Akwa Ibom Tech Week, visited the school to officially honour the students and their achievement.
Led by Hanson Johnson, president of the network and an engineer, presented the team with a cash prize of N250,000 to support the further development and incubation of their innovative idea.
Johnson, in his address, emphasized the importance of fostering a problem-solving mindset among young people, stating that the new question for the youth is not “what do you want to become?” but “what problem do you want to solve?”
The winning project, a remote fish farming monitoring system, aims to address key challenges in aquaculture by allowing fish farmers to monitor their operations from a distance.
The team’s presentation and the practical application of their idea impressed the judges and organisers, securing their place as a leading force in the local tech community.
Mfoniso Patrick, team’s leader, expressed her delight and gratitude for the recognition, noting that the experience had sparked a new interest in the world of technology.
Theresa Paulinus, the school’s principal, and Effiom Ekpo, a teacher, also shared their pride in the students’ success, highlighting the achievement as a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing talent.
The victory of Adiaha Obong Secondary Comprehensive School serves as an inspiration to students across the region, demonstrating the potential for local youth to create meaningful technological solutions with global applications.
The Ibom Innovation Network has encouraged more students to participate in this year’s challenge, fostering a new generation of innovators in Akwa Ibom state.
