No fewer than eight civilians were killed and some soldiers were reported missing after fighters of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) attempted to dislodge a community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, a security source said.
BusinessDay gathered that troops of Operation Hadin Kai stood their ground and engaged the attackers in Mayenti town, Bama LGA, on Monday evening.
According to security sources, the terrorists stormed the village on several motorcycles and gun trucks in an attempt to overrun the military base.
The source said, “We lost eight civilians, four CJTF and four labourers. Although some soldiers are still missing after the terrorists attacked our village.
“Mayenti is a neighbouring town to Dara Jamal, where terrorists killed more than 60 people in September.”
While retreating with the bodies of their fighters, the terrorists also burned two trucks belonging to the Borno State Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement.

Three days before the attack, the terrorists were reported to have been gathering around the Mayenti and Dara Jamal axis in preparation for the assault; however, no action was taken to eliminate them.
The attack occurred just hours after Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the Chief of Air Staff, departed Borno.
