The organizers and the board of the prestigious continental awards, African Icon Awards have announced the itinerary for the pre-event road show that would be going round 6 countries of the world, with four in Africa, one in the Americas and one in Europe.
The board of governing council speaking through the President of the awards, Ambassador Ayo George noted with excitement how the award train would move from one country to the other starting from the end of August 2018. He said, “it is about start, the meticulously planned award is about to kick-start with very interesting activities on the road to the awards. Special thanks however must go to our board chairman, His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife, for his fatherly role in all of this. He has always been accessible, despite his very busy schedule”.
He said further, “we are excited at the prospect of meeting very eminent personalities across the continent, especially the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency, George Weah, whom we shall be decorating as the “All Time Sports Icon of the Year”, right there in Monrovia later this month. The train is basically running through Liberia, Kenya, South Africa, Mali, United Kingdom and the United States of America. In these countries, we would either be decorating an awardee or holding a press briefing, or a combination of both. We would be telling the world about the awards and why we need to collaborate to project Africa as not just a continent, but as a movement of sound minded people that are ready to lead the world. Africa must change the narrative of hunger and poverty. We have a lot of Africans doing great things across the world, let’s celebrate that. These people have put Africa on the world map, that is the kind of story I want to tell about Africa. So while we are stared in the face with challenges, we can draw strength from the fact it all started here, we can actually lead the world.
We are overwhelmed by the warm acceptance from all awardees and partners in these countries, and we look forward to a fun filled road show and even a very exquisite and astounding award ceremony coming up”, he concluded.
African Icon Awards is coming up in Lagos Nigeria later in the year, and it is expected to be hosted subsequently by various African countries each year, as it seeks to unite the continent, while honoring Africans and global personalities.
