Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has told his congregation how he believes his final moments on earth will unfold — predicting that he will die on a Sunday, after returning from church and eating pounded yam.
The 83-year-old cleric made the remarks on Thursday during a sermon at the church’s 73rd annual convention, themed The Overcomers. Preaching under the title Possess Your Possessions, Adeboye urged members to live in good health and pray against illness.

“If you are healthy and pray the way I’m going to ask you to pray, you may never be sick again,” he said.
He then referred to his own death:
“I’m sure I have told you how I will go, if the Lord tarries. I will go to church — it is going to be on Sunday. I can tell you that. If you say, ‘how do you know?’ Leave that out of the question. I will go to church, have a wonderful service, come back home, eat pounded yam and go.”

The statement drew reactions from the thousands gathered at the Redemption City in Ogun State, where the RCCG’s annual convention is taking place. Adeboye followed the prediction with a call-and-response, asking the congregation to declare: “I will never be sick again.”
Known for his emphasis on holiness rather than material wealth, Adeboye also took a swipe at critics who accuse him of not of being a prosperity preacher.

“Prosperity is yours,” he said. “I know that there are some people who have been waiting for that so they can have something to criticise. That is all right. Everybody knows I’m not a prosperity preacher. I’m a holiness preacher.”
Adeboye, who has led the RCCG since 1981, remains one of Nigeria’s most influential religious leaders, with the church’s branches spread across more than 190 countries.
