Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has announced the inclusion of 11 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to benefit from the new minimum wage.
The governor also said that his administration has constituted a joint committee to work out modalities by which the 11 MDAs, which have not benefited from the new wage increment, would begin to benefit.
The committee, which is headed by the Head of Civil Service, Shehu Isa, is to partner stakeholders in addressing pressing issues affecting workers and explore ways to enhance workers well-being in the state.
Kaletapwa Farauta, state deputy governor, who represented the governor, made the disclosure on the occasion of Workers Day celebration held at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola.
Farauta, who represented her principal, the governor, stressed that government recognised challenges workers were facing generally, and reiterated its commitments to improving their working conditions.
“Government would ensure timely payment of salaries, providing opportunities for capacity building and human capital development,” she said.
She lauded the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for advocating the workers’ right and welfare
“NLC’s dedication to promoting social justice and fairness in the workplace is commendable. Government remains committed to building a state where workers are not only respected, but are given the tools and conditions to thrive, “the governor added.
