We at TEXEM are delighted to celebrate the appointment of Onene Osila Obele-Oshoko (FCA, F.IoD, FCTI, CFE) as the new Managing Director of the Rivers State Microfinance Agency (RIMA). This announcement is more than a career milestone; it is a resounding affirmation of her proven leadership, remarkable achievements, and unwavering commitment to inclusive growth.
Onene’s career trajectory has been defined by excellence, resilience, and service. A distinguished Chartered Accountant and fellow of several globally respected professional institutes, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Institute of Directors, the Chartered Institute of Taxation, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and a distinguished alumnus of TEXEM, she brings with her a rare blend of technical expertise and ethical grounding. These credentials reflect years of dedication to governance, accountability, and financial stewardship—qualities that the microfinance sector urgently requires.
Before assuming this new role, Onene demonstrated her capacity to lead at the highest levels of public administration as Chairman of the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service. There, she honed her skills in mobilising revenue, building systems of transparency, and ensuring compliance in environments where integrity and resilience are constantly tested. That experience, coupled with her strong academic background in accountancy and international business law, makes her uniquely prepared for the challenges and opportunities at RIMA.
Her commitment to financial inclusion is already evident in her first steps as Managing Director. In her inaugural address, she outlined a vision that balances compassion with accountability: extending RIMA’s services beyond the capital to reach remote communities while simultaneously calling for strict adherence to repayment obligations. This reflects her deep understanding that microfinance is not merely about access to funds but about empowering citizens with the tools, training, and discipline necessary to thrive sustainably.
At TEXEM, we are especially proud to see one of our own alumni embrace this new role with such vision and determination. Onene embodies the values that TEXEM instils in leaders—clarity of purpose, servant leadership, disciplined execution, and a relentless commitment to impact. Her journey is a living testament to the fact that leadership is not about occupying a position but about transforming lives and building institutions that endure.
Reflecting on her appointment, Dr. Alim Abubakre, Founder of TEXEM, observed: “Leadership legacies are not monuments we unveil at retirement; they are muscles we must strengthen daily. In an era where disruption is the norm, those who lead with clarity, courage, and compassion build institutions—not just offices.”
Under Onene’s stewardship, RIMA is poised to move beyond being a lender of last resort to becoming a catalyst for broad-based economic growth in Rivers State. With her wealth of experience across corporate, public, and charitable spheres, there is every reason to believe that she will drive innovation, expand opportunities for small businesses, and foster the kind of trust that sustains microfinance institutions for generations.
We warmly congratulate Onene Osila Obele-Oshoko on this well-deserved appointment. As she takes up the mantle of leadership at RIMA, we are confident that her tenure will mark a transformative era defined by bold ideas, inclusive prosperity, and enduring impact.
