The Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced a three-day strike beginning Monday, June 30, through Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, Rifkatu Iortyer, President of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), explained that the planned industrial action stems from mounting frustrations over unresolved issues concerning staff welfare, unpaid entitlements, and the alleged neglect of workers’ rights by Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister.
Iortyer urged all union members and affiliated bodies within the FCTA to fully mobilise and assemble at the Minister’s Main Gate in Area 11, Garki, by 7:00 a.m. daily throughout the planned protest.
She outlined a series of unresolved issues fueling the strike action, including stagnation in staff promotions since 2023, ongoing irregularities in salary administration, and the non-payment of various staff entitlements.
The union is also pushing for institutional reforms, improved welfare provisions, and an end to what it describes as unlawful salary deductions. Iortyer further demanded the resignation of the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission and rejected the appointment of overseeing directors.
Additional demands include the full implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) within the FCTA, restoration of access to the salary portal for salary desk officers, release of overhead funds withheld since December 2024, and the suspension of deductions for the National Housing Fund (NHF).
The union is also calling for the payment of five months’ wage awards and hazard allowances owed to health workers, provision of staff training and retraining, resolution of the issue of out-of-school primary pupils under the FCTA, and the settlement of outstanding payments owed to the AEPB enforcement team.
“All staff members are urged to converge at the Minister’s gate in Area 11 to press for these demands,” the statement concluded.
It would be recalled that primary school teachers and primary health centres in the FCT have been on strike since March 24, 2025, for over 90 days now due to the Area Council Chairmen’s failure to implement the new national minimum wage of ₦70,000.
