Premier League champions Liverpool have completed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5 million on a five-year deal.
The announcement comes just hours after the club confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid in time for the Club World Cup. Frimpong, a 24-year-old Dutch international, is seen as Alexander Arnold’s successor in Arne Slot’s squad, with Liverpool triggering his release clause to seal the deal.
A dynamic and versatile right-footer, Frimpong played a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga title win in the 2023/24 season and made 53 appearances in all competitions as they finished second in 2024/25.
He will compete for the right-back spot with Northern Ireland international Conor Bradley, who recently signed a new four-year contract with Liverpool.
Frimpong, a product of Manchester City’s academy, moved to Celtic in 2019 before joining Leverkusen in January 2021. At Liverpool, he joins a growing Dutch contingent that includes Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also pushing to sign another Leverkusen star, Germany international Florian Wirtz. The club is in advanced negotiations and has submitted an offer worth around £109 million, including add-ons.
The 22-year-old forward is a priority target for the Reds, and sources suggest talks are entering the final stages, with optimism that an agreement could soon be reached.
