…As Shasore’s committee submits report on gas development to AGF
The Federal Government of Nigeria (FG) has taken necessary actions needed to strengthen Nigeria’s position in high-stakes international arbitration matters in regard to the gas sector.
This is on the back of the final report on the associated gas development projects and arbitration matters’ report recently submitted to Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and minister of Justice, by legal committee.
The Committee’s mandate was to audit agreements and memorandum of understanding (MoUs) for Accelerated Gas Development Projects (AGDPs) and High-Profile Arbitration Matters in the Nigerian gas sector.
The Committee, which was inaugurated in November 2024, was mandated to conduct a thorough audit of agreements and MoUs on AGDPs, align them with the Nigerian Gas Master Plan, and review commercial risk to the country.
The Committee also reviewed concluded arbitration cases with a view to identify vulnerabilities that have exposed Nigeria to legal and commercial risk in the gas sector.
African Law Practice (ALP NG & Co.), in a recent statement made available to BusinessDay disclosed that the Committee’s findings and recommendations are expected to shape future government contracting practices and prescribe a risk matrix to strengthen Nigeria’s position in high-stakes international arbitration matters.
According to law firm, the finding of the report is a commendation for its senior partner, Olasupo Shasore, for his exemplary leadership in steering such a vital national assignment and diligent service to the country.
The Committee, chaired by Olasupo Shasore, senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and senior partner at African Law Practice (ALP NG & Co.), alongside his committee members, recently submitted the final report to the AGF in Abuja recently.
