The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched an airstrike on a terrorist enclave in Borno State, eliminating scores of insurgents and destroying three gun trucks. The operation carried out under the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), targeted a hideout north of Chiralia in the notorious Timbuktu Triangle.
Military authorities say the precision strikes have significantly disrupted terrorist activities in the region, reinforcing the ongoing counterinsurgency efforts in the North-East.
According to a statement by Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, the operation, which took place over the weekend, was initiated after ground troops provided actionable intelligence on the movement of three terrorist gun trucks from Sabon Gari towards Chiralia.
Acting swiftly, the Air Component deployed fighter jets for an Air Interdiction (AI) mission.
“Upon reaching the target, NAF pilots spotted the terrorists attempting to conceal their vehicles under trees. The jets engaged with precision strikes, obliterating two gun trucks instantly. A follow-up strike destroyed the third vehicle as insurgents tried to reposition it.
“The overwhelming firepower set all the vehicles ablaze, while several terrorists fleeing the scene were neutralized”, the statement reads.
According to the statement, the successful air raid significantly disrupts terrorist activities in the region and reinforces the NAF’s commitment to dismantling insurgent networks.
NAF also reaffirmed their determination to sustain air superiority, ensuring that terrorists find no haven while providing critical support to ground forces combating insurgency in the Northeast.
