The Abia government said on Wednesday that the Federal Government was yet to reimburse the N21 billion it spent on the rehabilitation of federal roads in the state since 2011.
The commissioner for works, Kingsley Mgbeahuru, made the statement in Umuahia while briefing newsmen on the efforts being made by the state government to tackle the problem of roads in the state.
Mgbeahuru explained that representatives of the Federal Ministry of Works, who inspected the rehabilitated roads, promised during their visit that the state would be reimbursed.
He noted that the state did not discriminate between state and federal roads in its effort to provide good roads for the people.
The commissioner said that more than 52 roads across the three senatorial zones were undergoing reconstruction.
He said that 10 roads in Umuahia, the state capital, in addition to 10 out of the 16 roads, listed for rehabilitation in Aba, had been completed.
Mgbeahuru said that rather than the state being commended for rehabilitating the roads, the reverse had been the case.
