Ahmad Rabiu, Kano State Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, and Co-operative, says the administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in the state, has adopted Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model in its quest to rejuvenate the state economy.
In order to achieve this goal, according to him, the administration has identified the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Mines, Industry and Agriculture (KACCIMA) as one of the key groups it is out to work with in the implementation of the PPP initiative.
Speaking while receiving a delegation of the newly elected leaders of the Kano Chamber in his office, the commissioner disclosed that the adoption of the PPP model was one of the strategies embarked upon by the government to strengthen the participation of the private sector in the finance of development activities in the state.
Rabiu, who was a one time, president of the chamber, charged members of the state chamber movement to take advantage of the opportunity which the adoption of the business model and support the government`s economic development aspirations through boosting their investment.
In the same vein, he also called on chamber to encourage more of their members to enlist their businesses on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, pointing out that such a move would go a long in assisting them expand their operations.
He noted that the state government is unhappy with the current state in which only few companies from the state are enlisted on the Floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange Market, despite the huge opportunity which the market offers.
Also, the commissioner hinted that his ministry has conceived plans to assist small-scale miners in the state to boost their operations and accessing local and international markets.
He commended the new president of the Chamber for his personal investment in the up-grading the building housing the Corporate Office of the Chamber.
In his address earlier, Dalhatu Abubakar, President of the Chamber said that his delegation was in his office for three reasons, noting that the first reason was to rejoice with the commissioner over his appointment.
The second reason, Abubakar explained was to notify the commissioner of the preparation being made by the chamber in respect of it forth coming annual international trade fair.
The third reason, he added was to use the occasion to formal request that the commissioner assist the chamber in its effort to get public agencies, and establishments to participate in the trade fair.
Abubakar gave assurance that the Chamber will continue to give all necessary support to all the policies and programme conceived by the state to boost the economy
