A new directive by Emirates Airlines has made it compulsory for Nigerians travelling from Nigeria to Brazil to pay their fares using credit cards. The directive which bars Nigerians from paying in cash is said to have emanated from the airline’s United Arab Emirates office.
Local newspapers cite an official of the airline, Babatunde Yahaya, “who explained the new policy to angry passengers on Sunday. According to Yahaya, the action was in line with a memo issued to Emirates Nigeria demanding that any ticket issued on Emirates, for passengers travelling from Nigeria to Brazil, “must be paid for by credit card, not cash.” Yahaya said the directive was issued on September 22 and took effect immediately.
