The Lagos Court of Arbitration alongside the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Centre are hosting a mediation conference for the Entertainment Industry. The forum is the product of a series of round-tables by the LCA to promote the effective resolution of commercial disputes by arbitration and other ADR mechanisms
Expected to take hold on 28 & 29 of September at the International Centre for Arbitration & ADR , Lekki, the conference is set to address the challenges facing the industry and increase the awareness of mediation services as an alternative to the traditional court process.
Recognizing piracy and distribution as persistent challenges to the media industry in Nigeria, the intervention efforts of the LCA stand to sensitize industry players, making them resort to ADR as a first choice. Intellectual property breaches and disputes surrounding the entertainment as such could be settled out of court, cost effectively while preserving professional relationships.
Titled ‘A Mediation Conference for the Entertainment Industry’, it is expected to unite entertainment stakeholders in Nigeria such as actors, musicians, visual /literary artists, poets, directors, movie/music producers, as well as legal practitioners. Participants will learn about the types of disputes in the Entertainment Industry, participate in mock-mediation sessions and participate in discussions on the importance of mediation as an alternative to dispute resolution in the entertainment industry.
