Authorities of the Nigerian Army have released the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ojogbane Adegbe who had been in detention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), before he was released into the confines of the Nigerian Army on February 26, 2016.
Ogwu Onoja, counsel to Adegbe, made this confirmation to BusinessDay when the ex-ADC was released.
“Right now, my client has been released and he is on his way home. On the issue of his ongoing promotional course in the United Kingdom, we will know the update on that by Monday, and we are sure with this gesture by the Nigerian Army, we thank them for doing things in line with the law,” Onoja said.
Adegbe had on February 11, 2016, been detained by the EFCC over his alleged involvement in the movement of over $47 million, which he was said to received from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki
A Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting before Justice Yusuf Halilu, in Jabi, Abuja, had earlier ordered the EFCC and any other government agency holding him in custody to release him on liberal terms pending his arraignment before any court, having filed a motion for the enforcement of his fundamental rights before the court.
The court had held that the law should be even handed between the government and an individual, and wondered why the EFCC had reduced itself to a “police station,” saying that the anti-graft agency must act within the limits of the law.
However, BusinessDay can authoritatively report that the Nigerian Army has released the ex-ADC, while update on his ongoing promotional course is still being awaited.
