To combat lifestyle diseases and promote healthy living, Cynosure WelFAS Ltd, has launched an Al–powered application aimed at helping Nigerians achieve their wellness, fitness and body goals.
The application which was unveiled in Lagos under the theme, “The future of total wellness and fitness transformation in Nigeria’’, integrates fitness tracking, calorie analysis, medical consultations and AI-driven health insights in to a single platform.
Speaking at the launch, Director of Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and founder of WelFAS, Ogbe Omoruyi explained that the app is designed to support individuals in achieving fitness, highlighting that wellness and fitness journeys can help reverse conditions like hypertension and diabetes.
Omoruyi, a plastic surgeon stated that WelFAS enables users to scan food images to track calorie intake and set daily targets.
The platform also, he said generates personalised meal plans tailored to individual goals, promoting a negative energy balance for sustainable weight loss.
He stressed that weight management should be approached as a long-term lifestyle commitment rather than a short-term effort, adding that consistency and discipline remain essential.
“Beyond nutrition tracking, the app integrates artificial intelligence to answer health-related questions, interpret uploaded laboratory results and facilitate consultations with certified doctors and nutritionists.
“Users can book virtual appointments and receive professional advice, a feature that would help bridge gaps created by Nigeria’s declining doctor-to-patient ratio and limited access to healthcare professionals’’, he added.
While emphasising that the app’s primary aim is to promote healthy living and prevent extreme medical interventions, he acknowledged that bariatric surgery remains an option for individuals classified as morbidly obese, particularly those with a Body Mass Index (BMI) above 40 who are unable to lose weight through conventional means.
He further explained that such procedures reduce stomach capacity to enable controlled food intake
Speaking also at the event, Ernest Onuchukwu lauded the curator of WelFAS for what he described as timely intervention in the Nigerian’s wellness ecosystem.
“The launch of a digital platform dedicated to wellness, fitness, and guided medical insights reflect both vision and courage.
“It also reflects a clear understanding of the realities of our time. That modern health system must embrace innovation if they are to remain relevant, accessible, and effective’’, Onuchukwu added.
While stating that innovation is no longer optional in healthcare, he said: “digital health tools, AI-driven insights, and mobile platforms are transforming how people access care, monitor progress, and receive guidance.
“Innovation enhances early detection of health risk, efficient health monitoring, preventive intervention, and health education.
“WelFAS as an AI-powered wellness and fitness platform reflects the future direction of preventive health. It bridges the gap between clinical guidance and everyday wellness practices.
It also extends wellness support beyond hospitals and clinics into people’s daily lives. This is particularly important in Nigeria, where access to consistent health guidance remains limited for many communities.
“Digital platforms can help democratize access to health education and structured wellness programmes.
“The responsibility of building a healthier Nigeria does not lie with the health sector alone. It is a shared responsibility of everyone.’’
Also speaking at the event, Head of Corporate Sales and Partnerships at i-Fitness Center Limited, Derrick Nwafor, representing founder and Chief Executive Officer of the center Foluso Ogunwale, highlighted Nigeria’s demographic and healthcare realities.
Citing United Nations data, he said Nigeria’s population has exceeded 227 million, with a median age of 18, describing the country’s youthful demographic as both a strength and a responsibility.
He also referenced figures from the World Health Organisation (WHO) indicating that non-communicable diseases account for about 29 per cent of deaths in Nigeria, many linked to lifestyle choices.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics, he added, shows that only a small percentage of Nigerians have health insurance, leaving many households to shoulder medical expenses out of pocket.
Nwafor argued that prevention must become central to Nigeria’s healthcare strategy and said digital health innovation offers a pathway to expand access, reduce inequality and improve sustainability.
On his part, Artificial Intelligence project advisor for Wellness, WelFAS, Obumneme John-Kennedy Ortuanya advised consumers to eat food in specific quantities so as to gain all the nutrients required.
He noted that while Nigerians are wellness aware, the key challenge is translating that awareness into actionable lifestyle changes.
The event’s highlight was the announcement of actress Kate Henshaw as the brand ambassador for WelFAS App.
