The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the Osun State Governorship election scheduled for August, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) missing.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Musa Olurode, INEC’s Public Relations Officer in Osun State, said candidates from 14 political parties were cleared to participate in the election.
The parties listed include Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Olurode explained that the publication of the final list was in line with the commission’s timetable and schedule of activities for the forthcoming election.
He recalled that INEC had earlier announced that only 14 political parties successfully conducted their primaries and uploaded the names and particulars of their candidates and running mates within the stipulated deadline on the commission’s nomination portal.
According to him, the absence of the PDP and LP on the final list followed their failure to complete the nomination process in line with the electoral timetable.
The INEC spokesperson added that the commission remains committed to conducting a credible, transparent and inclusive governorship election in the state.
The release of the final list marks a key milestone in the build-up to the Osun governorship election, as political parties intensify preparations and campaigns ahead of the poll.
