The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, on Monday, declared total support for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the August 15, 2026 Governorship election, even as members of the House of Representatives elected on the party’s platform formally joined the Accord Party.
Speaking at an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held at the PDP State Secretariat in Osogbo, Sunday Bisi, Osun State PDP Chairman, noted that after consultations with leaders and stakeholders across the three Senatorial Districts, the State chapter directed all party structures — from Polling Units to the State Executive — to support Adeleke’s re-election under the Accord Party.
According to him, “This is not a compromise of values. It is a defence of progress. It is not a retreat. It is a strategic advance for the sake of Osun State.”
Clement Akanni Olohunwa, representing Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, who spoke on behalf of the federal lawmakers, declaring their defection to Accord.
He said, “On behalf of Mahruf Adewale in Osogbo; Bamidele Salam representing Ede; Soji Adetunji representing Ikirun; Mudashiru Lukman Alani representing Iwo; Lanre Oladebo representing Irewolede/Isokan, all of us from today become members of Accord Party.”
Also addressing party members, Lere Oyewumi, Senator representing Osun West, said the PDP is confronted with a leadership crisis at the national level, which prevented it from presenting a candidate for the Governorship election in the State.
He said the governor had secured the Accord Party’s ticket and that the PDP in Osun had resolved to adopt him as its candidate for the forthcoming Governorship election.
Responding, Governor Adeleke expressed appreciation to the PDP for endorsing him and thanked the Accord Party for accepting him.
He called on supporters to vote massively for Accord Party in the August 15, 2026 Governorship election.
