AXA Mansard Health has intensified efforts to promote preventive healthcare, urging Nigerians to embrace early cancer screening as a critical step toward improving survival outcomes and reducing the burden of late diagnosis.
The health management organisation made the call during its 2026 World Cancer Day webinar, where medical and insurance experts addressed widespread fears, misconceptions, and financial concerns that often discourage individuals from undergoing timely screening.
The session, which focused on demystifying cancer testing and strengthening public confidence, highlighted the role of early detection in improving treatment success and reducing long-term healthcare costs.
Tope Adeniyi, chief executive officer of AXA Mansard Health, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to empowering Nigerians with the knowledge and confidence needed to take proactive decisions about their health.
“At AXA Mansard Health, our responsibility extends beyond providing access to healthcare services. We are committed to ensuring that Nigerians feel informed, supported, and confident enough to act early. Too many people delay screening due to fear, and educational platforms like this help change that narrative,” Adeniyi said.
He noted that improving awareness and access to screening would not only enhance health outcomes but also reduce the financial and emotional strain associated with late-stage treatment.
Participants at the webinar received practical guidance on modern screening procedures, including clinical processes, emotional preparedness, and the role of health insurance in improving access and affordability. Experts also addressed psychological barriers and emphasized the importance of routine checks as part of preventive care.
Jadesola Idowu, chief operating officer of AXA Mansard Health, stressed the importance of providing holistic support systems that encourage individuals to prioritise their wellbeing.
“Wellness requires emotional, mental, and financial assurance. Many people want to take preventive steps but are unsure how to begin. Conversations like this help reinforce that screening is not something to fear but a responsible health decision,” Idowu said.
Industry stakeholders note that increased awareness and access to preventive healthcare services could significantly reduce the prevalence of late-stage cancer diagnosis in Nigeria, where many cases are detected after symptoms worsen.
AXA Mansard Health said it would continue to champion preventive healthcare initiatives through education, advocacy, and accessible health coverage, as part of broader efforts to build a healthier and more informed society.
