…Insiders say it reflects Aso Rock accord
Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council and directed commissioners to hand over to the most senior officers in their ministries with immediate effect.
The move comes days after the latest round of peace talks between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), mediated by President Bola Tinubu, commenced in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Thursday evening and signed by Onwuka Nzeshi, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Fubara directed all commissioners and special advisers to hand over to the permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries with immediate effect.
Nzeshi added that the governor expressed his appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council, wishing them the best in their future endeavours.

The dissolution of the cabinet has been widely interpreted as part of a broader political realignment expected to produce a more inclusive executive council reflecting the new understanding between factions loyal to the governor and those aligned with Wike.
Analysts say the move could pave the way for the reconstitution of the cabinet to accommodate loyalists from both political blocs, with the aim of stabilising governance and restoring cohesion within the state’s political leadership.
Although details of the reconciliation agreement have not been made public, the development is being viewed as a strategic reset aimed at ending months of political tension and restoring administrative focus.
With the executive council now dissolved, attention has shifted to the governor’s next move—particularly the composition of a new cabinet and whether it will consolidate the fragile peace brokered at the highest level of the Presidency.
