The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) said that its participation at the ongoing 10th Abuja International Trade Fair was to attract foreign investors.
Churchill Williams, CAC director of public affairs, said this in a chat with newsmen in Abuja.
He said the need for the commission to contribute towards the investment drive of the Federal Government had made it imperative for the agency to map out some specific strategies at reaching out to investors of which its full presence at the Abuja trade fair was one.
The commission’s presence at the fair was to bring its services closer to its customers, especially foreign investors who might not be too conversant with its operations, Williams said.
The desire of the commission was to reach out to as many local and foreign investors as possible at the fair, with the aim of making registration of their businesses and other services of the commission easier for them.
The director said that “gone are the days when the commission waited for business owners to knock at its door for services.”
He said the current management of the commission was aware that the relationship of the commission with its customers was of utmost importance and also conversant with the nature of some business owners who might want to claim ignorant of the need for them to get their business registered.
According to him, trade fair is part of the CAC decentralisation policy; it is about bringing services closer to the people.
“We also want to make services user friendly and reduce cost. It is also part of our efforts to encourage SMEs thereby encouraging the formalisation of businesses.
“The commission’s participation in the fair is also geared towards public awareness. To reach out to people and enlighten them about the commission’s ideals and the services it has to offer, the reforms in the agency, registration processes and other activities,’’ he said.
According to him a lot of awareness campaign about the activities of the commission had already gone forth.
He said the commission was aware that many foreign business owners from the Asia, Europe and other African countries would be participating in the trade fair
“With this knowledge, we took the initiative to have a stand at the fair so that as business owners comes in, we would be able to intimate them with what we do.
“And again apart from those who have stands at the fair, a lot of business owners and intending business owner troop into the trade fair complex on a daily basis for networking to see what is trending in other countries and clime and some sightseeing. All these groups of people are our targets,” he said.
