As the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) stages a high-profile decamping programme at the Coronation Hall, Government House, cracks have emerged within the Kwankwasiyya political structure following the resignation of Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso from the Kano State Executive Council.
Mustapha Kwankwaso, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and son of former governor and senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, stepped down from his position on Monday, in a move widely viewed as a political response to the ongoing realignment sweeping through the state.
In a statement announcing his exit, the former commissioner expressed appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve, describing his decision as difficult but reflective of the prevailing political climate.
He thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in him and said his time in office provided valuable lessons and experiences, while urging sustained commitment to youth-focused policies and programmes in Kano.
The resignation comes as Governor Yusuf leads a mass political migration at the Coronation Hall, where thousands of supporters and political figures are being formally received into the APC, signalling a major shift in Kano’s political landscape.
