Human rights group FairSquare has accused FIFA President Gianni Infantino of breaching ethics rules in Donald Trump’s FIFA Peace Prize award.
FairSquare on Monday filed a formal complaint to FIFA’s ethics committee, alleging that Infantino violated his duty of political neutrality by openly supporting U.S. President Donald Trump.
Infantino recently awarded Trump the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize during the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington, DC and has since made multiple public remarks and social media posts praising the 79-year-old leader.

In October, the 55-year-old FIFA president wrote on Instagram that Trump “definitely deserves” the Nobel Peace Prize.
Speaking at the American Business Forum in Miami in November, Infantino added, “We should all support what [Trump] is doing [in the U.S.] because I think it’s looking pretty good.”
In its complaint filed on Monday, FairSquare criticised FIFA’s governance structure as “absurd” and accused the organisation of acting against the interests of the global football community.
“This complaint is about a lot more than Infantino’s support for President Donald Trump’s political agenda,” said FairSquare programme director Nicholas McGeehan.
“More broadly, this is about how FIFA’s absurd governance structure has allowed Gianni Infantino to openly flout the organisation’s rules and act in ways that are both dangerous and directly contrary to the interests of the world’s most popular sport.”
FairSquare argued that awarding the FIFA Peace Prize to a “sitting political figure” is “in and of itself a clear breach” of Article 15 of FIFA’s code of ethics, which deals with political neutrality.
The NGO has also requested that the ethics committee investigate Infantino’s involvement in the creation of the FIFA Peace Prize and the decision to award it to Trump.
Additionally, the group cited Infantino’s public plea in October for Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, along with three other instances where he made statements favourable to the president’s political agenda.
