At just nine years old, Kaima Muoghalu is stepping into Nigeria’s art scene with quiet confidence and a natural sense of color that feels both instinctive and assured. Recently named one of the Top 10 finalists for the 5th Annual Children’s Art Exhibition, “Vision of Colors,” hosted by HeartyArts Centre, Kaima is set to make her public debut at Iwalewa Art Gallery, Lagos, on November 15, 2025.
For Kaima, this moment marks more than just an exhibition — it’s the beginning of her creative journey. Her work, defined by bold compositions, nature-inspired motifs, and expressive brushwork, reflects her curiosity and emotional awareness of the world around her. Each piece feels spontaneous yet intentional, offering a glimpse into how children interpret their surroundings through unfiltered imagination and color.
Art Through a Child’s Eyes
Kaima’s paintings celebrate imagination and storytelling through color. Drawing inspiration from the sky, trees, and moments of play, her compositions translate everyday life into expressive, dreamlike forms. Her parents describe her as a child who “sees stories in everything” — a trait that now finds a platform on one of Lagos’ most respected gallery walls.
Through her art, Kaima captures the beauty of innocence and the depth of emotion that can exist even in the earliest stages of creativity. Her pieces reveal how children can express thought and feeling without formal training — an ability that feels as natural as it is profound.

A Platform for Emerging Talent
The Vision of Colors exhibition, now in its fifth year, was founded by HeartyArts Centre to celebrate creativity, imagination, and originality among children. Beyond the showcase itself, it offers mentorship, professional exposure, and an introduction to Nigeria’s growing visual arts ecosystem — from curators and collectors to critics and cultural patrons.
By hosting the event at Iwalewa Art Gallery, the initiative provides a professional platform where young talents can experience the art world firsthand. For many, like Kaima, it’s their first encounter with a space that validates their creativity, showing them that their work and voice matter.
According to the organisers, Vision of Colors aims to nurture long-term engagement with the arts by giving children access to galleries and audiences early in life. It’s part of a broader movement to integrate arts education and mentorship into Nigeria’s creative development — ensuring that the next generation of artists is supported from the ground up.
A Sign of What’s to Come
Nigeria’s visual art landscape has flourished in recent years, driven by a new wave of galleries, collectors, and educators committed to amplifying local talent. Exhibitions like Vision of Colors play a vital role in bridging the gap between early artistic exploration and professional practice.
Kaima’s inclusion among this year’s finalists is both a personal milestone and a symbol of what’s possible when young minds are encouraged to explore and express. Her debut at Iwalewa is a testament to what can happen when curiosity meets opportunity — and when children are empowered to use art as a language of their own.
Vision of Colors 2025 opens to the public on November 15, 2025, at Iwalewa Art Gallery, Lagos. Visitors will experience the works of the ten young finalists and witness the unfolding journey of Kaima Muoghalu — a young artist already painting her way into Nigeria’s creative future.
