Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in a deal worth up to €85 million (£74 million), according to multiple reports in England.
Sources, including the BBC, The Athletic, and Sky Sports, confirm that Man United will pay an initial €76.5 million for the 22-year-old, with an additional €8.5 million in performance-related add-ons.
Newcastle United were also keen on signing Sesko, potentially as a replacement for Alexander Isak, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool. However, Sesko has opted for the prestige of joining the 20-time English champions despite their absence from European competition in the upcoming season.
The forward is expected to undergo a medical on Friday before completing his move to Old Trafford.
Sesko has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for Leipzig, including 21 last season, and has drawn comparisons to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland due to his size, speed, and clinical finishing. Like Haaland, he also rose to prominence at Red Bull Salzburg before moving to Germany in 2023.
His arrival caps off a major attacking overhaul at United this summer. The Red Devils have already secured the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined £130 million, bringing their total investment in forwards this window to over £200 million.
United are desperate to address last season’s attacking woes, where they managed just 44 goals in 38 Premier League matches; only four teams scored fewer. The club endured its worst league finish in 51 years, ending the campaign in 15th place.
Sesko, Cunha, and Mbeumo tallied 58 goals last season. With mounting pressure to comply with financial sustainability regulations and no European football to boost revenue, the Red Devils are banking on the trio to fire United back into domestic contention.
