Two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers at the Edo State House of Assembly, yesterday dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers are, Hon. Eugene Ojie Inegbeboh Esq, member representing Igueben constituency and Hon. Andrew Uzamere who represents Ovia II constituency.
The defection added to the PDP’s losses at the nineth assembly, and significantly reduced the party legislators’ numerical strength at the nineth Assembly from initial 15 to four.
The State Chairman of APC, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe received the legislators at the party’s secretariat on Wednesday in Benin City.
Tenebe described the defection as part of a growing political consciousness across Edo State, adding that it aligned with the party’s accountability, vision, and inclusive development.
The APC chair emphasised that there is no old or new membership in APC, noting, “we are one family. The same honour and expectations accorded to long-standing members are equally extended to you.”
He further said: “Your coming is a reinforcement of what we stand for. We are welcoming two proven leaders whose experience will further enrich our party’s vision and grassroots reach.
“Let us All take today as a reminder that the strength of the APC lies not just in our numbers, but in our unity, our decipline and our shared belief in a better Edo.
“As a party, we urged all Edo citizens to continue to give our governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the full support and enabling environment he needs to implement his people-entered programs.”
Earlier, the defected lawmakers thanked the APC for the warmth reception, and pledged to add value to the growth of the party.
