The Nigeria Army has vowed to win the war against the Boko Haram terrorist group because the people of Borno and Northeast region deserve development, stressing that without peace, these may not be achieved.
The GOC 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, newly promoted Maj. Gen Bulama Biu made this disclosure at the weekend during a grand reception organised in Maiduguri by friends and family in his honour over his accelerated promotion from Brigadier General to Major General.
“We are not going to be distracted by the activities of Boko Haram terrorist and their collaboration. This war is a must-win war.
“I call on the Boko Haram members to give peace a chance and lay down their arms and come back home so that they be reintegrated back to the society, as there are many opportunities for them. They can aspire to become what they want to become. They can even aspire to become President of this country.” Gen. Biu said.
He said people of Borno state and the Northeast had suffered a lot as a result of the insurgency and urged the insurgents to see reason and lay down their arms and come back to the society.
He appreciated God Almighty for sparing his life and for the elevation, and thanked President Buhari and the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai, for recognising what they are doing and promised to do more until peace was completely restored back to the Northeast, as every elevation comes with its responsibility.
In his remarks, the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, represented by his Deputy, Usman Kadafur said that the accelerated promotion of General Biu did not come to them as a surprise because of the commitment and hard work of the General.
“The people and government of Borno State remain grateful and indebted to the Nigerian military for bringing peace back to the state and our heart will continue to be with those that paid their supreme price to ensure that peace comes back to our land.
“This elevation is a clear indication your efforts in the fight against insurgency is yielding the desired result, but you should also know that every promotion comes with additional responsibility. I, therefore, urge you to do more,” he said.
Also speaking, the theater Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Benson Akinroluyo, said he was proud that the President and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Buratai are happy with what we are doing within the theatre, because both Lt General Adeosun and General Biu achieves these feats as a result of their contributions within the theatre.
He urged General Biu and other officers and men of the theatre to do more so that they will finish the job and go back to their barracks.
