Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe has announced that winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco will receive $10 million in prize money.
The announcement was made on Saturday after a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in Rabat, Morocco, on the eve of the tournament’s kickoff.

The new prize represents a 43 per cent increase from the 2023 AFCON, when hosts Ivory Coast earned $7 million after lifting the trophy.

It also marks a significant rise from the $5 million awarded to winners of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, meaning the champions’ prize has doubled within four years.
Historic increase in AFCON prize money
Under the revised structure, the runners-up will receive $4 million, while the two losing semi-finalists will each earn $2.5 million, further underlining CAF’s commitment to improving financial rewards for national teams.

Motsepe also revealed plans to introduce a new continental competition, the African Nations League, which will be staged during FIFA international windows between October and November. The annual tournament will feature Africa’s top players and will be organised in partnership with FIFA.
In addition, CAF will provide $1 million to each African football federation as part of a broader strategy to strengthen football development across the continent.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations officially kicks off in Morocco on Sunday, with the final scheduled for January 18, 2026. Moroccan football authorities have promised a landmark edition of the tournament, billed as one of the biggest AFCONs in history.
