The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), the platform of about 60 opposition political parties on Sunday expressed support to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari is planning to use elements within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rig the 2019 elections.
The CUPP in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by its 1st National Spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere agreed with all the issues that Obasanjo raised on President Muhammadu Buhari; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the INEC ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
“CUPP agrees with all the issues raised in former President Obasanjo’s world press conference today (Sunday),” Ugochinyere said.
He noted that the coalition supports Obasanjo’s position on Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and INEC on the 25 issues about the election that the former president raised especially on the quest by INEC to embark on simultaneous accreditation and voting contained in the Guidelines, which he said is a manual to rig elections.
Ugochinyere maintained that the CUPP can only be comfortable with separate accreditation and voting method used in 2015, which he said has to be retained if the electoral body was committed to free and fair elections.
“For 2019 election to be free and fair, that separate accreditation and separate voting method used in 2015 election must be retained.
“Accreditation figures must be announced and recorded before voting starts,” he added.
