Not fewer than 20 farmers and fishermen were reportedly killed in an attack by the Islamic State of West Africa Province ISWAP terrorists in Kukawa local government area of Borno State, sources said.
It was gathered that the attack happened on Thursday morning in Malam Karanti, a village five kilometres from Baga town in Kukawa Local Government Area in fringe of Lake Chad Basin.
Sources said the terrorists gathered farmers and fishermen near the village and killed 23 bean farmers.
“They slaughtered at least 20 farmers, They assembled people in Malam Karanti and killed them. Most of the victims were beans farmers,” the source said.
Another source claimed efforts to recover bodies proved abortive as ISWAP terrorists launched another attack where more than a dozen people were abducted.
“We tried to organise a rescue mission with security agencies to recover the victims’ bodies, but the terrorists returned and prevented us.
“At least 18 people were forcefully taken away by the terrorists and whereabout yet unknown.”
Malam Karanti is an ISWAP enclave, where civilians often farm and fish despite risks.
