Solomon Adeola Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, has distanced himself from recent media attacks targeting political office holders in Ogun State, cautioning his supporters against engaging in such conduct.
The lawmaker, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District and is widely seen as a key governorship contender, described the attacks as regrettable and entirely against his political philosophy.
Reacting to a statement circulated by a group and individuals claiming they were being maligned for supporting him, Adeola made it clear that no one had his mandate to launch attacks in his name.
“I am greatly disturbed by the derogatory media attacks in some online media and on social media against honourable members of the parliament by some individuals or groups ostensibly acting to show support and defend me,” the senator said in a statement issued by his media adviser, Kayode Odunaro.
“I have not mandated anyone or group to attack or act on my behalf on any issue. I completely disassociate myself from such deed as they are not in my style of politics or governance,” he added.
Adeola emphasised that while he appreciates the support and goodwill he receives from various groups, he will not tolerate any form of abusive or derogatory rhetoric directed at others, particularly fellow public officeholders.
He reiterated his commitment to respectful and inclusive politics, urging his followers to exercise restraint and decorum.
“Let all my supporters know that I have not mandated them to attack anyone on my behalf. I believe in politics of inclusion and will never close the door on any perceived opponents or fellow party members as they are likely supporters in the future,” he said.
The senator, who also serves as the leader of the Ogun State Caucus in the National Assembly, reaffirmed his commitment to collaborative governance.
He noted that he is working harmoniously with Governor Dapo Abiodun, other National Assembly members from Ogun State, and the Ogun State House of Assembly to advance development efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“There is no division among us on development for our people to warrant personal attacks. I have not ordered any media attack on anyone,” Senator Adeola concluded.
