The out come of the quarterfinals games leave a draw that could repeat the famous 1981 final between Manchester City and the Tottenham Hotspur, but then, the final could lead to four possibilities.
Following their 1-0 win over holders Manchester United, Chelsea completed the line-up of teams competing in the FA Cup semis, joining Man City, Arsenal and Spurs in the last four.
For the first time in a long time, the last four games of the FA Cup will feature an all-star cast. Here we look at the possible outcomes of the draw.
Manchester City vs. Arsenal
Man City are playing in the semi-finals for the first time in four seasons after beating Middlesbrough in a 2-0 away win.
City have played at Wembley Stadium six times since the 2012-13 season, winning four times and losing twice.
City were victorious in the 2016 League Cup final but lost at Wembley to Wigan in the 2013 final.
Wenger at this point is struggling to win the confidence of the fans as he bagged a terrible defeat (probably the worst in his career) in the Uefa Champions League round of sixteen against German side Bayern Munich.
Arsene Wenger’s side, Arsenal have the best recent record at England’s national stadium.
Arsenal proved too good for non-league Lincoln City in a 5-0 home win.
The Gunners have won all six matches played since 2014, including their 2014 and 2015 FA Cup final victories. With the Gunners recent FA Cup records, Arsenal might pull another upset against Man City.
Chelsea vs. Spurs
Premier League leaders, Chelsea will square up against fellow London rivals, Tottenham in a place for the final at the Wembley stadium.
Chelsea lost their last match at Wembley in the 2015 Community Shield against Arsenal. The Blues won the 2015 League Cup final against Spurs, a repeat of this year’s semifinals. Prior to that, the Blues won three and lost won of their previous four Wembley clashes going back to 2012. Of the remaining sides, Spurs have the worst recent record at Wembley.
History has it that Chelsea has no fear of playing Spurs on neutral ground, but Tottenham known for upsetting big sides. In their last meeting, Spurs denied Chelsea the chance of setting a new winning streaks record of 14 wins back to back in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have used Wembley as their home stadium in European competitions this season but only won one out of four; losing two and drawing the other.
Spurs also suffered Wembley defeat in the 2015 League Cup final, losing 2-0 to Chelsea.
Verdict
Pep Gardiola known for winning trophies will be banking on the FA Cup triumph to announce his arrival in England.
Again, Wenger will be hoping to restore fans confidence by knocking City out of the FA Cup and probably going ahead to claim the trophy.
For over three seasons, Spurs have shown character and enthusiasm, evident in the premier league table where they sit second on the log and could prove a big shock.
Both semifinals matches will be played at the Wembley Stadium on of 22 and 23 April.
Fans are up for a very exciting set of games, with likely historical upsets that the FA Cup is known for.
