The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) recently launched the national identification number authentication (NINAuth) application for seamless identity verification across the country.
“The NINAuth application provides a secure, scalable, and interoperable interface for identity verification through API integration. It is designed to facilitate real-time authentication of NIN records, thereby promoting effective service delivery, database harmonisation, and compliance with the National Identity Policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria,” according to Kayode Adegoke, head of Corporate Communications at NIMC.

Implementation
NINAuth introduces a robust layer of data protection, allowing individuals to control how and when their personal information is shared.
The platform requires explicit user consent before data can be released for Know Your Customer (KYC) or any other verification process, fostering trust and transparency in identity management.
The launched NINAuth is a suite of services including web, API, and mobile tools which is engineered to strengthen data security, uphold privacy, and streamline access to essential government services.
As part of the President’s agenda to enhance the national digital identity infrastructure, NINAuth is the official application for integration with NIMC’s backend systems.
Key Features
Through NINAuth, Nigerians can securely verify their identity to access key services, which include SIM registration and replacement, Immigration, and passport processing, Tax filings and financial transactions, Government intervention programs within various MDAs and Driver’s license renewals, and other regulatory services.
It is built to improve service delivery, drive database harmonisation, and ensure full compliance with the Federal Government’s National Identity Policy.
NINAuth benefits
NINAuth will provide enhanced security, which shields personal data from unauthorised access. It will enable user control, which will allow users to manage data-sharing preferences.

It will provide seamless access by offering a secure, single sign-on solution for accessing multiple government services. The platform delivers a secure, scalable, and interoperable interface for real-time authentication of NIN records via API integration.
Designated as the exclusive platform for all NIN-based verification and authentication processes, NINAuth shows NIMC’s commitment to advancing efficient and secure digital identity systems in Nigeria.
