‘Time’, according to one dictionary, is defined as “the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present and future regarded as a whole.”
‘Season’, on the other hand, is defined as “a period of the year characterised by a particular activity, event or festivity.”
So, what time, or season, is it currently? … It is the time, or season, when we especially remember the greatest act of love that God has shown to mankind.
What is this greatest act of love? Let God’s Word, the Bible itself, tell us. In the Gospel of John, Chapter 3, Verse 16, we read: “For God loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son so that everyone exercising faith in Him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life . . . .”
Yes! This is the time, or season, when we especially remember the greatest act of love that the only true God, JEHOVAH, showed to mankind by sending His only-begotten Son, Christ Jesus, into the world to give His life as a propitiatory sacrifice, an atoning sacrifice, a means of appeasement, a ransom, in exchange for many. (Matthew 20:28 and 1st John 4:9, 10).
So, how can we show our appreciation and gratitude for God’s gift of the ransom? . . . In addition to the advice we are given in 1st John 4:11, 12, Christ Jesus also instructed his followers to remember his death. This we can find in God’s Word, the Bible, at Luke 22:19, 20, where we read: “Also, he took a loaf, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This means my body, which is to be given in your behalf. Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” Also, he did the same with the cup after they had the evening meal, saying, “This cup means the new covenant by virtue of my blood, which is to be poured out in your behalf.”
So, in obedience to Jesus’ command, Jehovah’s Witnesses all around the world commemorate the Memorial of Jesus’ Death, or The Lord’s Evening Meal, once every year.
This year, 2025, the Memorial of Jesus’ Death will be observed on Saturday evening, 12th April, 2025, after sundown, which corresponds to Nisan [Abib] 14 in the ancient Hebrew calendar.
