Yahya Oyewole Imam, a professor of Islamic Studies and director of the Centre for Affiliated Institutions, University of Ilorin, has affirmed the institution’s unwavering commitment to strengthening capacity and building a more efficient and robust educational system.
Professor Imam made this known in his welcome address at a three-day capacity-building workshop held recently at the University Auditorium Basement.
The event was organised for the 16 institutions currently affiliated with the University.
According to him, the training was initiated to align the Centre’s operations with the University’s broader strategic vision. “A memo outlining my plans for the Centre in line with the current administration’s Vision 1:10:500 agenda was submitted to the Vice-Chancellor. I am pleased to report that the proposals, though slightly modified, received approval,” he noted.
The workshop, he explained, was designed to expose participants to critical areas of institutional operation, including admission requirements, staffing, curriculum development, examination administration, result processing, certificate issuance, and statutory charges.
Highlighting the Centre’s growth, Imam revealed that 16 institutions are presently affiliated with the University, with five more in the pipeline, he attributed this increase to the University of Ilorin’s strong reputation for academic excellence and institutional stability.
Speaking on the topic ‘Affiliation and Other Service Fees and Charges,’ he emphasized the importance of compliance, urging affiliates to meet their obligations to ensure the continued delivery of quality services.
Imam expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, a professor of International Law, for providing a supportive environment that has enabled the Centre to thrive.
He called on affiliate institutions to actively support the Centre’s vision of becoming a leading hub for affiliated institutions, not only in Nigeria but globally.
Imam, further urged participants to fully engage in the workshop and apply the insights gained from the carefully selected facilitators, who are renowned for their academic expertise.
“It is hoped that the outcomes of this workshop will significantly contribute to overcoming the challenges previously identified by the Centre,” he stated.
Other facilitators included Abdulrafi’i Oyewumi Omotosho, a Professor of Islamic Law, University of Ilorin spoke on collaboration, research, mentorship, and guidance; and Afolake Nafisat Adetoun Shittu, a Professor of Education Technology, University of Ilorin who addressed “Staffing, Teaching, and Curriculum Studies,” emphasizing the importance of adapting to emerging technologies and nurturing professional educators.
In their goodwill messages, Lere Adeyemi, Professor of Yoruba Literary Theatre; Abdulrasheed Adeoye Abiodun, Professor of Performing Arts; and Bamidele Victor Owoyele, Professor of Physiology Neurosciences declared Unilorin’s zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice.
They called on affiliate institutions to provide quality education, invest in research, and prepare students for global competitiveness.
They also urged participants to align fully with the University’s systems and assured them of Unilorin’s unwavering support in helping affiliates deliver standard education.
The 16 institutions represented at the workshop were: An-Najaah Islamic Institute, Ibadan; Markaz University College, Agege; Bn. Ballo College of Arts and Islamic Sciences, Ibadan; Haruna Rasheed Centre for Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin; National Institute for Security Studies, Abuja; Osun State Polytechnic, Iree; National Teachers’ Institute, Kaduna.
