The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) on Thursday released the results of the November/December 2015 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with 28,768 candidates’ results, representing 12.13 percent, withheld for further investigation in connection with various cases of examination malpractice.
Olutise Adenipekun, the new head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC at a press briefing at the council’s office in Yaba, Lagos, said a total of 237,154 candidates sat for the examination, consisting of 124,512 male and 112,642 female.
According to him, this number included 37 visually challenged candidates. Out of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, 235,542 candidates, representing 99.32 percent have their results fully processed and released. 1,612 candidates, (representing 0.68%) have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors, traceable mainly to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination.
Adenipekun, while giving a detailed statistics of the result, disclosed that of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, 79,490 candidates, representing 33.51 percent obtained six credits and above; 113,573 candidates, representing 47.88 percent obtained five credits.
In addition, 146,253 candidates, representing 61.67 percent obtained credits and above in four subjects, while 175,718 candidates, representing 74.09 percent obtained credits and above in three subjects. A total of 200,304 candidates (84.46%) obtained credits and above in two subjects.
He however called on candidates who sat for examination to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website within the next 24 hours.
