VFS Global is expanding its operations in Nigeria as rising travel demand increases pressure on existing visa processing systems. The company said more Nigerians are applying for visas through organised groups, prompting a rollout of additional services across the country.
Siddharth Mehra, the company’s Chief Operating Officer for Sub Saharan Africa, said in a statement on Sunday that the firm is trying to make the process easier for applicants outside Lagos and Abuja, where demand has historically been concentrated. “Our mission is to ensure that every traveller’s journey begins smoothly, supported by technology, security and trust,” he said.

The company manages visa processing for 69 governments and operates more than 3900 centres in 165 countries. It said it has handled over 514 million transactions globally since 2001.
Nigeria’s expanding travel market has increased pressure on appointment schedules, leading applicants to seek alternatives that reduce long trips and waiting times. VFS Global said usage of its mobile visa submission service is rising, including among sports teams, corporate groups and families. The service allows applicants to complete documentation and biometrics from any chosen location.

According to The Nations, a spokesperson for Remo Stars FC, who recently booked a group session, said the process was “seamless and efficiently managed,” noting that players received support through the submission.
The company has also opened Premium Application Centres in Enugu, Kano, Ibadan and Port Harcourt to complement its main offices in Lagos and Abuja. These centres provide document scanning support, real time notifications and courier return of passports. They also offer optional services such as Keep My Passport While Applying and extended hours, including evening and weekend appointments.

VFS Global said the expansion is backed by its Live Identity Processing technology, designed to improve biometric accuracy and secure applicant data. The company added that several Nigerian organisations have made large group bookings in recent months, combining mobile submissions with premium centre services.
Mehra said the firm is adjusting its infrastructure to reflect increasing demand from travellers heading abroad for work, study, sport and leisure.
