The legislative activities on the floor of the House of Representatives suffered setback for about 10 minutes following the uncomplimentary remarks made by Lasun Yussuff, Deputy Speaker of the House against his counterpart from Osun State, Mojeed Alabi.
Alabi who raised a point of order 13 sub section 1(2), and made reference to the preamble of the Constitution was ruled out of order by the Speaker Yakubu Dogara, before reading the provisions of the Constitution he referred to.
While reacting to Alabi’s point of Order, Dogara who presided over the session noted that all the legislative processes have been exhausted, hence no amendment can be made to the report.
“We are taking vote on all the clauses despite the fact that most of them did not survive in the Senate. So that Nigerians will know our position on them,” Dogara said.
However, normalcy returned following the intervention of some female lawmakers and their male counterparts who pacified the aggrieved Osun lawmaker.
While leading debate on the work done by the Special Ad-hoc Committee on Constitution review, Lasun explained that 32 alterations were treated by the Committee.
Likewise, the Committee recommended that the Auditor General of the Federation should be accorded First Line charge as well as separate the office of the Attorney General of the Federation from Minister of Justice which is a political appointment.
During the voting process, the lawmakers resolved that impeached former President, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Senate President and Speaker of House of Representatives should not to be part of Executive Council.
No fewer than 280 members voted in support of independent candidacy in subsequent general elections into all elective positions at federal, state and local government.
