Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, has died.
His family announced that the lawmaker passed away at a private hospital in Lagos at 11:07 pm on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, after a brief illness.
In a statement signed by his son, Jideofor Ezea, the family said, “With profound grief, the family of Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea… announces his passing.”
The statement described the late senator as “an active and influential voice in the 10th Senate” who maintained a strong presence in legislative deliberations until his death.
Jideofor noted that at the start of the legislative session, Senator Ezea served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.
“He later assumed other strategic roles, including Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing and Urban Development,” he said.
Until his final days, the late lawmaker was the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and NEPAD, as well as a member of the Senate Committee on Culture and Creative Economy.
Senator Ezea’s legislative work, according to his family, was “defined by purposeful and impactful contributions.”
Among his key efforts was the sponsorship of a bill to establish the Federal College of Agriculture, Adani, described as “a legacy he pursued with unwavering commitment until his illness.”
He also pushed for the creation of Adada State and moved several motions addressing insecurity in the Southeast.
The family noted that his “last major motion on the Senate floor” focused on insecurity in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, where he condemned persistent killings and attacks by “rampaging herdsmen,” urging urgent military intervention.
Before his election to the Senate under the Labour Party in 2023, Ezea had a long political journey.
The statement described him as “a founding member of the APC” who played a major role in building the party’s presence in Enugu.
He contested the governorship in 2007 and 2011, and after some time away, joined the Labour Party in 2023 where he won his Senate seat.

His contributions were not limited to politics; he held national appointments, including serving as the Chairman of the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, Taraba State.
Recalling his 2023 election victory, the family said he was “elected on the Labour Party platform to represent Enugu North, overcoming a turbulent political journey.” They added that “he never wavered on his principles, resolutely serving the nation until his last day.”
Senator Ezea is survived by his wife, Chiamaka, and four children.
As the family mourns, they appealed for public prayers. “As we mourn this painful loss, we respectfully request prayers for the family during this difficult time,” the statement said.
