The House of Representatives’ Ad-hoc Committee investigating revenue leakages in the oil and gas sector has issued a seven day ultimatum to two oil companies to pay total sum of $59 million gas flaring penalty into government’s coffer.

Breakdown of the unpaid fine showed that Newcross oil company allegedly owes total sum of $27 million while Shebah E and P Limited allegedly owes total sum of $32 million.

Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, Chairman of the Committee issued the directive during the investigate public hearing held at the National Assembly complex, Abuja.

The resolution came on the heel of observation made by Johnson Agbonayinma (APC-Edo) who queried the non-appearance of the Chief Executive Officers of both companies.

“Pease do not overlook the issue of representations here both companies should be excused,” the Edo lawmaker urged.

Jarigbe and members of the Adhoc Committee had earlier expressed displeasure over the non-appearance of top management of the oil companies at the investigative hearing.
In response to the point of order raised by Agbonayinma, other lawmakers who supported the motion through a voice vote, walked out delegations from Shebah E and P Limited, with the directive to ensure payment of $32 million within one week.

In the dame vein, the lawmakers resolved to walk-out delegation from Newcross, just as the Committee mandated the company to pay $27 million into government’s coffer within one week.
While ruling, Jarigbe who frowned at the level of disregard for Parliament said: “you have one week to pay back or your permit will be suspended,” he threatened.
