Protesters blocked roads with burning tyres and security forces fired shots in the Congolese capital on Monday as opposition activists prepared to march to press President Joseph Kabila to step down, witnesses said.

Kabila’s mandate ends in December but the opposition says he is preparing a plan to stay in power longer. The protests were in the Ngaba and Yolo neighbourhoods, witnesses said.
