The Lagos State police command is deploying 12,000 operatives across the state to provide security as well as prevent the breakdown of law and order as Muslims mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir.
Spokesperson of the command Bala Elkana, who disclosed this at the weekend, said they were leaving no part of Lagos uncovered during the Moslem festival.
The Federal Government had earlier declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays to enable Nigerian Muslims join the rest of the world in celebrating the 2019 Eid-el-Kabir.
According to Elkana, to ensure a hitch-free celebration, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Zubairu Muazu, has also directed the implementation of robust and elaborate security arrangement throughout the state by area commanders, tactical commanders and divisional police officers.
“They are to be on ground to beef up security, carryout massive deployment of police personnel for visibility patrols, crowd controls, and adequate protection of all Eid praying grounds and other venues of celebrations in their areas of responsibilities.”
The CP also ordered the deployment of anti-crime patrols along all major roads throughout the state for the protection and safety of travellers, commuters and other road users during the period and beyond.
The police boss specifically directed men and women of the command on duty to operate strictly under instructions, be civil, polite, compassionate and firm in carrying out their duties.
He said itense surveillance/intelligence gathering will be maintained, special deployment and stop-and- search duties will be conducted at flash/vulnerable points.
The command employs members of the public, most especially travellers and other roads users to cooperate with police personnel deployed on stop-and-search duties.
‘Parents are advised to monitor the movements and activities of their children. Youths are warned against engaging in any act of violence,” said the command.
‘Members of the public are enjoins to be security conscious, vigilant and report any incident or happening observed in their locality to the nearest police station.
