Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at Onne Command in Rivers State says it has so far realised a total sum of N70 billion out of the N131 billion revenue target for the year, 2016.

Babari Abduhahi, the Onne Customs controller, disclosed this recently when he spoke with newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

The controller said his command would make up or raise the revenue target to about 90 percent before the end of December 2016.

According to the controller, the economic recession and the attendant difficulties in getting the foreign exchange by the importers, greatly affected the efforts of his men at meeting the set targeted revenue for the year.

He explained that the volume of trade in the ports was greatly affected by the economic recession in the country because it equally affected the revenue charges on the various imported goods, which he said, was seriously reduced.

The Nigerian Customs work at the Onne Ports, he explained had so much to do with import evaluation of items imported, because of what he described as the right revenue that would be collected on each of the items imported into the country.

Abduhahi equally disclosed that his command has so far not made any seizure of goods this year (2016) because “no one has so far failed the law on importation”.

According to him, it would be a wicked thing to do, for his command to do so where there was no cause for it. He however, commended his men for their gallantry in the discharge of their duties for the past one year.

Abduhahi appealed to those who have businesses at the zone to always conduct themselves properly in order to enable the custom serve them well and achieve set targets.

Last year, the Onne custom service had a revenue target of N104 billion but realised about N102 billion at the end of the 2015
