Today, Abiodun Alao, a Nigerian academic delivers a professorial inaugural lecture at King’s College, University of London. This makes him the first black African scholar to deliver such lecture since the school was established in 1829.

A professor of African Studies, Alao was conferred the professorial title about two years ago alongside Funmi Olonisakan, a Nigerian colleague at the institution’s African Leadership Centre, making them the first black Africans to ascend the professorial wrung since the citadel of learning was established.

Their appointments have long been confirmed in a letter by Edward Bryne AC, the President and Principal of the institution in recognition of the duos contributions to African peace and security.
