Adeniyi Oyebade, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Div., Nigeria Army, Kaduna, on Wednesday inaugurated a memorial garden for the 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna.
Oyebade, at the ceremony, said that the garden was dedicated to the memories of officers and soldiers of the 31 Artillery Brigade, who lost their lives in various operations, within and outside Nigeria.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a special tomb was dedicated to the 12 gallant soldiers, who were gunned down in Bosso, Dagba, Kopa and Gagaw villages of Bosso Local Government Area, Niger State, on August 14, 2016.
Oyebade commended officers and men of the 31 Artillery Brigade for exhibiting professional conduct while discharging their constitutional responsibilities, declaring that the army had no apology for any group hit for threatening the peace and stability of the country.
He reminded soldiers that their duties required constant sacrifices, and called on military officers in charge of commands, to execute projects for which they would be remembered by future generations.
The officer also promised that military authorities would continue to provide basic needs for officers and men to enable them discharge their primary duties effectively.
Speaking earlier, Moshood Olanrewaju, Commander, 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna, had urged the Niger government to redeem its promise to compensate families of fallen soldiers.
