NAFDAC destroys Products worth N75 mn in FCT

In its continuous drive to rid the country of fake and counterfeit drugs, the National Agency for food and Drug Administration and Control,(NAFDAC) on Thursday destroyed substandard products  worth N75 million in Kuje area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Yetunde Oni, the acting director general of the agency at the destruction exercise said the periodic exercise further gives credence to the fact that the agency is continuously waging war against persons or organisations involved in counterfeiting of regulated products.

Today, we witness the destruction of various categories of regulated products. This  as one of the strategies employed by NAFDAC to prevent the circulation of fake, counterfeit medicines and unwholesome regulated products. These products are worth N75 million naira,” The NAFDAC CEO said.

In 2014, we carried out destruction of over one hundred and Twenty Million Naira worth of fake and counterfeit medicines and other regulated products and we are happy that this figure is down to Seventy five million in 2016.

She, however said that the success of enforcement and surveillance activities is dependent largely on the inter-agency collaboration and cooperation as she lauded the support of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, the Association of Community Practice Pharmacists of Nigeria, Association of supermarket Owners Association of Nigeria.
